БАКУ, 16 авг — Sputnik. В этот день, 16 августа, в южном американском городе Мемфисе проходит традиционный День памяти певца, музыканта и каратиста Элвиса Пресли.
Ежегодно в августе тысячи поклонников короля рок-н-ролла съезжаются в Мемфис на неделю памяти Элвиса Пресли (Elvis Week).

Lisa-Marie Presley, the daughter of the rock legend, celebrated her 30th birthday 01 February and "finally inherited some 205 million US dollars from her father's estate," according to a British newspaper report 31 January. Lisa-Marie, who was due to inherit the estate, which includes the property, when she was 25, left the control to her mother Priscilla for the past five years due to the latter's successful handling of the Elvis Presley Enterprises and the famous mansion. Вообще программа праздника включает в себя ряд различных мероприятий, в том числе и трехдневный турнир по каратэ (ведь известно, что Элвис увлекался не только музыкой, но и этим видом единоборства).
В списке 50 величайших исполнителей всех времен по версии журнала Rolling Stone Элвис находится на третьем месте после Beatles и Боба Дилана.
До его смерти, наступившей 16 августа 1977 года, было продано 500 миллионов его пластинок, а через семь лет эта цифра возросла вдвое – такого не удавалось еще никому.
Элвис Пресли снялся в 33 фильмах, получая за каждый минимум по миллиону долларов. В 1973 году телепередача с его участием собрала у экранов миллиард человек – такого количества зрителей не удалось собрать даже репортажу о высадке первого человека на Луне.
